Joshua Ruiz

Joshua Ruiz arrived at San Diego State in January 2016 as an assistant athletic trainer with his main focus on softball.

Ruiz, who also assists with baseball in the fall, handles all the medical needs for softball. He also supervises and coordinates all rehabilitative efforts in case of injury.

A native of Los Angeles, Ruiz spent time at two universities before landing at San Diego State. While completing his graduate coursework at Long Beach State, Ruiz was an athletic training intern in 2009-10 and was the primary athletic trainer for the women's basketball team, and the secondary contact for men's and women's track and field. Then from 2010-12, he was LBSU's athletic training graduate assistant, continuing his work with women's hoops and both track and field squads.

With his master's degree secured, Ruiz accepted an assistant athletic trainer position at Sonoma State in January 2013, where his focus was primarily on softball and men's soccer. He also worked during his time there with men's and women's tennis, women's track and field, and women's soccer.

Ruiz, who graduated from CSUN in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in athletic training, worked with the Los Angeles Clippers as an athletic training intern, traveling occasionally during the 2008-09 campaign. He also worked training camp and the preseason schedule as an intern with the Arizona Cardinals in the summer of 2009 and 2010.
