Aztecs Ink Two-Year Radio Pact With Clear Channel March 9, 2000 San Diego - San Diego State Director of Athletics Rick Bay today announced a two-year agreement with Clear Channel, Inc. whereby, beginning with the 2000-2001 athletic season, Aztec football broadcasts will air on KOGO (600 AM) and men's basketball contests on a station to be determined. Weekly coaches shows featuring head football coach Ted Tollner and head basketball coach Steve Fisher will air on XTRA (690 AM) as well as a monthly interview with Bay. The format for the agreement involves SDSU purchasing air time from Clear Channel for the games, thus retaining all the commercial inventory to sell within the broadcasts. The deal also includes an unprecedented $20,000 contribution from Clear Channel to the Aztec Athletic Foundation that will be applied toward the department's scholarship fund for student-athletes. "Under the leadership of Rick Bay, Ted Tollner and Steve Fisher, SDSU football and basketball are heading in the right direction at a very fast pace," said Clear Channel general manager Kevin McCarthy. "We are thrilled at the opportunity to chronicle their success on San Diego's best radio stations." "We're very excited to have reached an agreement with Clear Channel," said Bay. "The demographics, the current ratings, and signal strength all make this a great fit for our program. It also means a great deal for Clear Channel to have partnered with us in providing a significant donation to the AAF for scholarships for student-athletes." Potential broadcast conflicts on KOGO with Padres baseball will result in a shift of Aztec football games to KSDO or KGB-FM. San Diego State women's basketball home games will continue to be carried by KCBQ AM (1170). |
