Aztecs Annouce Second Annual 'Book The Q' For Literacy

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State Director of Athletics Rick Bay announced that the secondannual Book the Q" for Literacy, presented by the San Diego Union-Tribune,will take place Saturday, November 6 at Qualcomm Stadium. That evening, theSan Diego State football team plays host to Brigham Young. Fans areencouraged to bring new or slightly used books prior to the game fordistribution to public schools in the San Diego County area. All highschool students will get free admission to the SDSU-Cougar game with theirstudent I.D. card and are encouraged to bring books. In addition, those whodonate books on game day will receive an Aztec display sticker that alsoentitles the fan to obtain two tickets to any SDSU non-conference men's orwomen's basketball game in the 1999-2000 season.

Prior to the game, books suitable for kindergarten through 12th gradereaders may be donated for distribution at Wal-Mart, the Aztec Store & Morein Fashion Valley, the Campus Store and other locations at SDSU. Discountcoupons for tickets to the San Diego State-BYU game are available at nineWal-Mart stores throughout San Diego County or by using the Union TribunePress Pass in advance at Window G, Qualcomm Stadium. Book the Q for Literacy, presented for the second year by the San DiegoUnion Tribune, has received corporate support from Cox Communications,Wal-Mart and KFMB/Star 100.7. "This is an event that makes a lot of sensefor San Diego State University to be involved in," said Bay. "There is adefinite need in the county to supplement the inventory in our publicschools and, as an educational institution, we are privileged to provide anavenue to help address that need."

Benefiting from the book drive are San Diego County public schools as wellas the San Diego Council on Literacy. Last year, the Aztecs collected morethan 12,000 books for San Diego area youth through the Book the "Q"campaign.
