Aztec Sports Spectacular Features Fisher, Football and Forehands

San Diego State Aztec fans will get a chance to meet new men's basketball head coach Steve Fisher this Saturday, April 24 as a part of the Spring Sports Spectacular on the SDSU campus. An all-day series of activities will take place starting with the football team scrimmage at 10 a.m. and concluding with Aztec baseball vs. Fresno State at 7 p.m. In between, there will be a session in Cox Arena with Fisher; the Western Athletic Conference men's tennis championships; and a softball double-header vs. defending national champion Fresno State.

The following is a breakdown of the Aztec Sports Spectacular Schedule:

10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. -- Aztec Football Scrimmage -- 55th and MontezumaThe SDSU football team participates in its second full scrimmage of spring drills on the Aztec practice field. Admission is free.

12 noon - 1 p.m. -- Meet Coach Steve Fisher -- Cox ArenaAdmission is free as new Aztec head coach Steve Fisher meets the fans for the first time since taking over last month. KFMB's Ted Leitner, the voice of Aztec football and basketball, will serve as master of ceremonies. Those in attendance will receive free Rubio's taco and drink coupons and free Aztec hats. Fans will have an opportunity to order season tickets for the 1999-2000 SDSU basketball season as well as participate in an on-court shoot-around and obtain autographs from players and Coach Fisher.

1 p.m. - Free cookout sponsored by the Aztec Athletic Foundation -- Softball FieldThe AAF will grill hot dogs and dispense soft drinks for fans in attendance.

1 p.m. - Western Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Championships - Varsity Courts The championship match for the WAC Tennis Tourney is slated for this time and the Aztecs are one of the favorites to capture the conference crown in their final season in the league. Admission is $4 for adults and $2 for seniors and youth.

1 p.m. - Softball vs. Fresno State -- SDSU FieldFresh from a sweep at Colorado State, the Aztec softball team faces a tough challenge in defending NCAA champion and number two ranked Fresno State. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for seniors and youth.

7 p.m. -- Baseball vs. Fresno State -- Tony Gwynn StadiumSan Diego State hopes to continue its conference turnaround after sweeping three games at Brigham Young last weekend. The Aztecs host arch-rival Fresno State to wrap up Saturday's activities. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for seniors and youth.
