Aztec Athletic Foundation Hosts Inaugural Scholarship Golf Classic

The Aztec Athletic Foundation is pleased to announce the creation of the inaugural Aztec Athletic Foundation Scholarship Golf Classic, sponsored by Barona Casino and the Barona Band of Mission Indians.

The event is scheduled for Friday, Nov, 10 2000, at the brand new Barona Creek Golf Club in Lakeside. The event will be the first non-reservation event hosted at the Barona Creek Golf Club.

Also, Clear Channel Communications has signed on as a presenting sponsor for the classic, which raises funds for student-athlete scholarships at San Diego State University.

"We are absolutely thrilled to be able to host this first-class event at an excellent facility" said Aztec Athletic Foundation Interim Director Pat Kreger. "The layout of the new course is fantastic, we feel participants in the classic are going to enjoy the round of golf they will play. It's also a great event for a great cause, and we are excited to further our relationship with Barona Casino and the Barona Band of Mission Indians, who have done so much for SDSU Athletics in the past. This is just another opportunity for us to strengthen our partnership."

The Gary Roger Baird Design offers five sets of tees, playing to a championship length of over 7,200 yards, but still enjoyable to the everyday recreational golfer. Designed to take advantage of the natural beauty and contours of the surrounding terrain, Barona Creek Golf Club is nestled on the southwest corner of the Barona Indian Reservation. Lush oak trees, over 100 bunkers, and a series of lakes and ponds fed by natural stream beds, will be strategically placed to affect shot value and appeal to the golfer's sense of sight and sound.
