San Diego -

More than 50 San Diego State University student-athletes will volunteer in "I Love A Clean San Diego" beach clean-up community service project on Saturday, April 29.

The project begins at 8 a.m. with groups meeting on various beaches throughout San Diego county. A majority of the South Mission Beach group will consist of Aztec student-athletes and athletic faculty members. SDSU's group will be picking up trash, extending from the "Big Dipper" roller coaster to the pier. The clean-up service ends at 11 a.m.

John Engstrom, chairman of the SDSU student-athlete advisory committee encouraged SDSU athletics to join "I Love A Clean San Diego." Engstrom is a graduate of Rancho Bernardo High School and just concluded his senior season as setter for the men's volleyball team.

This is the second community service project that SDSU student athletes have been involved with during the school year. In October, Aztec football wideout Lonny Mitchell spearheaded a community beautification project in City Heights. Nearly 100 Aztec student-athletes joined Mitchell in a general graffiti and neighborhood clean-up.
