2018 Volleyball Roster Features 10 Newcomers

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State head volleyball coach Deitre Collins-Parker has announced the addition of 10 student-athletes to the 2018 volleyball roster, split between five transfers and five freshmen. The newcomers, which come from five different states across the United States, include four outside hitters, three middle blockers, two defensive specialists, and a setter.

Emily Burns - OH - 6-2 - Junior - Valencia, Calif. - College of the Canyons

COLLEGE OF THE CANYONS: Western State Conference South Division Player of the Year… 2017 California Community College Athletic Association All-State Team selection… Led the Cougars to a 22-5 record in 2017, including a 7-1 record in conference play to earn a co-conference championship… Led College of the Canyons with 4.61 kills per set and 502 total kills on the season, which also ranked second among California junior college players… Posted a .329 hitting percentage on 2017, good for second best on the team… Ranked seventh in the state with 67 service aces… Earned All-WSC honors as a freshman in 2016…. Posted 10 or more kills in 26 of a possible 27 matches in 2017, including a career-high 38 in a five-set loss at El Comino on Sept. 15… Posted five performances with 20 or more kills in 2017.

Lauren Lee - DS/L - 5-0 - Sophomore - Coppell, Texas - Rice University

2017 (RICE UNIVERSITY): Played in all 123 sets as a true freshman...fourth on the team with 268 total digs...11 matches with 10 or more digs, including a season-high 19 digs in a victory over Stephen F. Austin (9/16)...earned a C-USA Academic Medal and was named to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll.

HIGH SCHOOL: Attended Coppell High School in Coppell, Texas where she played for head coach Julie Green...accumulated 1,816 digs, 99 aces and 283 assists...during her senior campaign Lee amassed 665 digs (5.6 dps), 41 aces and 99 assists...selected the 2016 District 7-6A MVP...Coppell varisty volleyball 2016 MVP and Defensive MVP...2015 District 9-6A Defensive Player of the District...2015 TAVC First Team All-State...2015 Under Armor All-American Honorable Mention...2015 Prep Volleyball Defensive Dandy...played club for the Skyline Juniors and was named the Skyline 17 Royal Defensive Player of the Year and the Skyline 18 Royal Defensive Player of the Year...was Second Team All-District 7-6A and the district Defensive Player of the Year.

Serena Hodson - MB - 6-2 - Freshman - Mission Viejo, Calif. - Trabuco Hills HS

HIGH SCHOOL: Played three years of varsity volleyball at Trabuco Hills HS in Mission Viejo, Calif… Played 102 sets and totaled 72 blocks and 166 kills as a senior… Served as team captain in 2017… Named to All-South Coast League Second Team as a senior… Also earned Scholar Athlete honors three times and was named Most Inspirational Player by her teammates in 2014 and 2017… Led all middle blockers in the South Coast League in blocks and kills… Played club volleyball for Laguna Beach Volleyball Club in Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif…. Totaled 501 digs in 73 sets played during senior season… Named team's best defensive player all four years in high school… Three-time team captain… Named team Most Valuable Player as a sophomore in 2015… Earned NWF Daily News Player of the Week honors twice in her career… Named first-team All-Area as a senior… Member of National Honor society as a junior and senior… Involved with Key Club, Beta Club, Mu Alpha Theta, and Student Council during high school.

Camryn Machado - S - 5-9 - Sophomore - Cardiff by the Sea, Calif. - Utah

2017 (UTAH): Played in 109 sets for the Utes, helping Utah go 24-10 and earn a pair of wins in the NCAA Tournament before falling to Texas in NCAA Regionals at Stanford... Totaled 332 assists on the year, for 3.05 assists per set (second most on team)... Logged a season-high 23 assists in a 3-2 win against at Washington on Oct. 6... Recorded a season-high 18 digs against Oregon State on Oct. 27... Recorded eight consecutive 10+ assist performances from Sept. 22 - Oct. 15... Recorded 14 10+ assist matches on the season... Posted two double doubles on the year (at Washington on Oct. 6, at Oregon State on Oct. 27).

HIGH SCHOOL: Three-year letter winner at La Costa Canyon High School... Career statistics include 1,509 assists, 460 digs, 92 aces and 115 kills... Named first team all-league as a junior and senior... Named All-CIF First Team as a senior after registering 1,041 assists (first overall in San Diego County) and 234 digs... Was a member of CIF state championship team as a junior and CIF runners up as a senior... Played club volleyball for Coast.

PERSONAL: Daughter of Justin and Jamie Machado... Has one brother, Austin... Born Oct. 25, 1998... Father played baseball and mother played tennis at Sonoma State.

Delaney Taylor - S - 5-10 - Junior - Berkeley, Calif. - Oregon State

OREGON STATE: Played for the Beavers during the 2016 season before transferring to SDSU before the start of the 2018 season… Played in seven sets and five matches as a sophomore, totaling 21 assists, a service ace and eight digs… Recorded a career-high 12 assists against California on Nov. 23.

MIDDLE TENNESSEE: Played for Middle Tennessee as a true freshman before transferring to Oregon State for her sophomore season… Played 97 sets and led team with 740 assists… Also psoted 120 digs, 14 service aces and 25 blocks… Named Conference USA Setter of the Week on Oct. 12 2015.

HIGH SCHOOL: Played three years of varsity volleyball at Berkeley HS in Berkeley, Calif… Served as team co-captain as a senior… Posted 61 aces and was second on the team in blocks and digs as the team's setter… Named Rookie of the Year after sophomore season… Named to All-League Honorable Mention team.

PERSONAL: Daughter of Diana Yovino-Young and Eric Taylor… Has one sibling, Morgan.

Alexis Ratliff - MB - 6-4 - Freshman - Atlanta, Ga. - Saint Francis HS

HIGH SCHOOL: Played four years of varsity volleyball at Saint Francis HS in Alpharetta, Ga. … Named All-Area Player of the Year and was an All-State team selection… Averaged 4.5 kills per set after logging 199 kills in 44 sets as a senior… Recorded 115 service aces during senior campaign… Posted 40 blocks for a 0.9 blocks per set average… Played AAU volleyball for A5 Pure Volleyball and won a national championship after posting a 16-1 record… Also played basketball for Saint Francis HS.

PERSONAL: Daughter of Theo and Kristina Ratliff… Her father, Theo, played 16 years in the NBA from 1995-2011 and saw action with the Detroit Pistons, Philadelphia 76ers, Atlanta Hawks, Portland Trail Blazers, Boston Celtics, Minnesota Timberwolves, San Antonio Spurs, Charlotte Bobcats, and Los Angeles Lakers and was named an NBA All-Star with the Hawks in 2001… Her mother, Kristina, also played high school basketball and volleyball… Chose SDSU over Louisville, Georgia, Georgia Tech, West Virginia, Florida, and Florida State during the recruiting process.

Maddie Lenn - OH - 5-10 - Freshman - San Francisco, Calif. - Sacred Heart Prep

HIGH SCHOOL: Played three years of varsity volleyball for Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep in San Francisco, Calif. … Served as team co-captain as a senior…. Ranked sixth in the West Catholic Athletic League in kills… Led team to a runner-up finish in WCAL as a sophomore… Member of the Academic Honor Roll all four years… Also competed in swimming at SHCP.

Lexie Hamrick - OH - 6-3 - RS Sophomore - Louisville, Ky. - Lindsey Wilson College

2017 (LINDSEY WILSON): Played 16 matches of NAIA action for Lindsey Wilson… Totaled 48 kills for a 1.7 kills per set average and .255 attack percentage… Also recorded 11 blocks.

HIGH SCHOOL: Graduated from Mercy Academy in Kentucky in 2015… Four-year starter in high school and led team to a No. 1 national ranking from PrepVolleyball.com… Guided high school team to a Kentucky state championship and 41-1 record, earning state tournament MVP honors… Named Under Armour All-American as a senior… Named to Kentucky High School All-State tournament team and All-Region team in junior and senior seasons… Posted 3.8 kills per set and a .499 hitting percentage during senior season… Also logged 322 total blocks including 229 solo blocks… Originally committed to North Carolina after high school.

Victoria O'Sullivan - OH - 6-0 - Freshman - Albany, Calif. - St. Mary's HS

HIGH SCHOOL: Played three years of varsity volleyball at St. Mary's HS in Berkeley, Calif. … Named All-League First Team selection after junior and sophomore seasons… Named League MVP after junior season and Team MVP after junior and sophomore seasons… Led team to a Tri-County Championship in 2016… Member of the Dean's List all four years of high school… Also competed in track where she competed in the 100-meter, 200-meter, 4x100 relay, 4x200 relay, and 4x400 relay… As a sophomore, posted 4.4 kills per set with a .524 hitting percentage… Racked up 305 kills in 70 sets played with 508 attempts… Participated in volleyball junior nationals and AAU national tournaments… Played for Beach Vibes Volleyball Club and Rage Volleyball Club.

PERSONAL: Daughter of Paul and Adonna O'Sullivan… Her sister, Alexandra, plays volleyball at Saint Mary's College… Chose SDSU over St. Mary's, Yale, North Carolina, and Ole Miss during the recruiting process.

The Aztecs begin its 2018 regular season on Friday, Aug. 24 against CSU Bakersfield at Peterson Gym. In addition to the 10 newcomers, SDSU returns 11 players from the 2017 roster, including 2017 All-Mountain West selection Deja Harris.
