GREENSBORO, N.C. --  Garrett Hill of the San Diego State baseball team was named an American Baseball Coaches Association West All-Region Second Team selection on Wednesday morning, being chosen after a vote by members of the ABCA.

Hill, the 2018 Mountain West Co-Pitcher of the Year, is SDSU's eighth All-Region honoree since 2014. Hill finished his junior season with a team-high seven wins, a 7-3 record, a rotation-best 3.91 ERA, and a team-high 78.1 innings pitched. Hill was selected in the 26th round by the Detroit Tigers in the MLB First-Year Player Draft last week.

The West Region teams include student-athletes from California, Oregon, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and Hawaii. Hill is one of six Mountain West student-athletes to be recognized by the ABCA and one of just two pitchers from the MW.

Hill earned Mountain West All-Tournament Team honors, throwing 6.1 innings of one-run baseball in a 2-1 win over San Jose State in the opening round of the tournament. Hill also earned Mountain West Pitcher of the Week on March 12, pitching 6.2 shutout innings with eight strikeouts in a 3-2 win over Air Force on March 11.

Hill finished his redshirt-junior campaign fifth in the Mountain West in strikeouts (72), seventh in ERA (3.91), seventh in innings pitched (78.1), and third in wins (7).

The Aztecs finished the 2018 season with a record of 39-21, capturing its fifth Mountain West Championship in the last six years while also making an appearance at an NCAA Regional for the fifth time in the last six years.
