LOUISVILLE, Ky. - San Diego State senior pitcher Alex Formby has been named to the all-NFCA West Region Second Team, the NFCA announced Thursday.
The awards honor softball student-athletes from the NFCA's 10 regions with first, second and third-team selections. NFCA member coaches from each respective region voted on the teams, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to the 2018 NFCA Division I All-American squads.
Formby finished her final campaign with a 10-12 record, two saves and a 2.64 ERA in 130 innings, striking out 80 against 36 walks. The Orange, Calif., native pitched in 39 of the team's 51 games, mainly in relief, limiting her opponents to a .223 average. In 34 relief appearances on the season, the right-hander was 9-9 with two saves and a 1.52 ERA in 115 innings, holding the opposition to a .199 average.
Formby ended her three-year career with the Aztecs (Formby spent 2015 at Virginia) ranked in a tie for first in saves (12), and 10th in winning percentage (.519) and appearances (104).
SDSU finished with a 20-31 overall record in 2018, including an 11-13 mark in MW play for sixth place. San Diego State won six of its final eight games of the season, including two of the final three series.
