SAN DIEGO -

San Diego State women's tennis head coach Peter Mattera announced today the signing of Shakhnoza Khatamova to a National Letter of Intent for the upcoming season. The incoming freshman is set to join the Aztecs come fall for the 2018-19 campaign.

"Aztec tennis is very pleased and proud to add Shakhnoza to our women's tennis family," Mattera said. "She brings a wealth of both experience and success from her junior tennis career. Shakhnoza has had great results in both singles and doubles nationally in Uzbekistan, where she is top 10 in singles. Additionally, she has good results in ITF tournaments with a rank as high as No. 424, and in WTA events where she's been ranked as high as No. 1127 in singles and No. 840 in doubles."

Khatamova will travel to the Mesa in the fall from her native Uzbekistan, where she is ranked in the top 10 in singles as a junior tennis player. The incoming freshman is currently a high school senior at Ferghana Sport College at the Ferghana Industrial Vocational College.

"Shakhnoza will be ready to hit the ground running in the fall and will really help to elevate the program," Mattera said. "The fact that she is also a fantastic person makes her a great fit for our team and athletic program."

Khatamova joins an Aztec women's tennis program that has seen years of success on the court and in the classroom, boasting 11 conference championships, 74 academic all-MW Conference awards and three Academic All-Americans during Mattera's time as head coach.
