San Diego State's women's rowing is set to head north this weekend to compete in the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships, which will take place Saturday and Sunday, April 28-29, on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif.
The Aztecs will enter three events this weekend, including the varsity eight, second varsity eight and varsity four races. Saturday's lineup consists of preliminary races to determine lane positioning for Sunday's events.
The V8 is scheduled to get on the water Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. and will face Stanford, Sacramento State, Loyola Marymount, Saint Mary's, Santa Clara and Seattle University. The Aztec 2V8 preliminary race is scheduled for 9:20 a.m. and will compete against boats from Stanford, Sac State, LMU, Santa Clara and St. Mary's. The V4 is set to take on opponents from Stanford, Sac State, LMU, St. Mary's and Santa Clara at 10:40 a.m. on Saturday.
With lane positioning determined by Saturday's preliminary races, final events on Sunday for the V8, 2V8 and V4 are scheduled for 8:50 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 10:20 a.m., respectively.
The Aztecs enter this weekend's competition coming off a solid head-to-head win over UCSD in Chula Vista, as well as wins in each of their four events the weekend prior at LMU with UCSD.
Last season, SDSU's trip to the WIRA Championships was highlighted by the 2V8's first place finish, as well as the V8 and V4's second place finishes in their events.
