The San Diego State women's tennis team is set to travel to Boise, Idaho, this weekend to compete at the 2018 Mountain West Women's Tennis Championship, hosted by Boise State. Due to facility complications, the fourth-seeded Aztecs will now go up against No. 5 seed Wyoming in the quarterfinals on Friday, April 27, at 9 a.m. MT at Appleton Tennis Center.

The Cowgirls ended its regular season with five straight conference matchups to finish 11-7 overall and 3-2 in MW action. Wyoming is led by junior Elisa Koonik and sophomore Milka Genkova. Koonik, who was named to the all-MW singles team Wednesday alongside teammates Magdalena Stencel and Tessa van Der Ploeg, boasts a 12-2 mark in dual play and is perfect in conference action. Genkova holds an 11-4 record in dual action and went 2-2 in conference matches this season.

SDSU, who earned a first round bye, enters the Championship as the No. 4 seed (10-12, 1-3 MW) following two straight regular season conference losses to Fresno State and San Jose State. Despite the tough finish, the Aztecs went on a streak to win six straight doubles points, finishing the season with 13 total doubles points.

Senior Jana Buth was named a member of the all-MW singles team for her individual performance in the No. 1 singles position throughout the season, highlighted by wins over two ranked opponents and finishing regular season matches with a 9-11, 1-3 MW record. Buth and doubles partner Paola Diaz recorded a 13-8 doubles record that included a perfect 4-0 finish in conference matches. Junior Jenny Moinard logged a team-best 17-4, 3-1 MW record, going 6-2 in the No. 3 position and 11-2 in the fourth seed for the Aztecs, in addition to earning a 12-7, 1-3 record with doubles partner Mia Smith.

The last meeting between Wyoming and SDSU happened in a similar fashion in 2015 when the two teams met with the same seeing in the quarterfinals of the MW Championship in Albuquerque, N.M. In that postseason matchup, the Aztecs fell just short to the Cowgirls, dropping a 4-3 decision to finish the season 13-11. Despite the loss in their last meeting, the Aztecs hold the overall series advantage against Wyoming at 14-3.

The winner of the Aztec/Cowgirl quarterfinal matchup will advance to the semifinals on Saturday, April 28, taking on the winner of Friday's match between (1) UNLV and the victor of Thursday morning's contest between (8) Nevada and (9) New Mexico. Live scoring will be available throughout the tournament and a link will be available on GoAztecs.com. Live video will also be available Saturday and Sunday for the semifinal and final matches only.
