SAN DIEGO -
Aztec Softball Welcomes Colorado State for Weekend Series
San Diego State returns to America's Finest City for a weekend series with Colorado State at SDSU Softball Stadium. The Aztecs (14-28, 5-10 MW) will meet the Rams (24-14, 8-7 MW) at 6 p.m. PT Friday, 6 p.m. PT Saturday and noon PT Sunday.
All three games will have live stats on GoAztecs.com.
SDSU is coming off a tough 2-1 series loss at league-leading Fresno State, run-ruling the Bulldogs, 10-0, in five innings on Friday, before falling, 5-1, on Saturday and 4-2 on Sunday.
San Diego State has been streaky this season. The Aztecs opened their season 1-8, then won seven of nine games (7-2) with a pair of victories over nationally ranked teams. Since the 6-2 win over then No. 21/20 Minnesota on March 2, however, the Aztecs have gone 6-18.
Out of SDSU's 28 losses on the season, 19 have been by three or less runs and 14 by two or less runs. Altogether, San Diego State has six extra-inning losses, four with the international tiebreaker rule in effect, seven by one score, seven by two runs and five by three scores.
Heading into the weekend, Kelsey Munoz has recovered from a hand injury that sidelined her for 23 games by leading the team with a .317 average. Katie Byrd tops the Aztecs in hits (41), doubles (9), RBIs (21, tied), total bases (52), slugging percentage (.394) and on-base percentage (.366), while Aris Metcalfe is perfect in 11 stolen base attempts.
Marissa Moreno and Alex Formby are each tied for the league lead with 35 appearances, while Moreno's 31 games started are seven more than No. 2 in the league. Formby is 8-11 with a 2.66 ERA over 116 innings, limiting the opposition to a .221 average, while Moreno is 4-14 with a 3.52 ERA in 119 1/3 innings. Julie McDonald (2-3, 4.91 ERA, 45 2/3 innings) has also logged meaningful innings in the circle for SDSU.
