COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State women's tennis earned the No. 4 seed at this weekend's 2018 Mountain West Championship in Boise, Idaho, the conference office announced Monday. The Aztecs avoid playing in Thursday's first round and advance straight to the quarterfinals on Friday, April 27, to take on fifth-seeded Wyoming.

The conference tournament, hosted by Boise State, is set for Thursday through Sunday, April 26-29 and kicks off with three first-round matches for the sixth through 11th-seeded teams. With a first round bye, the Aztecs (10-12, 1-3) are set to take on the fifth-seeded Cowgirls (11-7, 3-2) on Friday at 10 a.m. MT at Julia Davis Park.

The winner of the Aztec/Cowgirl quarterfinal matchup will advance to the semifinals on Saturday, April 28, taking on the winner of Friday's match between (1) UNLV and the victor of Thursday morning's contest between (8) Nevada and (9) New Mexico.

This is the first time the Aztecs have earned a No. 4 seed or better in the conference tournament since the 2014-15 season when then-fourth-seeded SDSU fell to fifth-seeded Wyoming, 4-3, at the Linda Estes Tennis Complex in Albuquerque, N.M. The Aztecs earned the 10th seed in the 2016 MW Championships, upsetting No. 7 Nevada in the first round to then fall 4-0 to second-seeded New Mexico in the quarterfinals. Last season, ninth-seeded SDSU fell 4-2 to eighth-seeded Utah State in the first round of the championship.
