SAN DIEGO -
Nevada 6, San Diego State 3 | Highlights
San Diego State dropped a 6-3 decision to Nevada in the series finale Sunday afternoon at SDSU Softball Stadium. The Aztecs are now 13-26 on the season and 4-8 in Mountain West play.
SDSU had a 3-1 lead until the top of the fifth when the Wolf Pack (19-18, 8-6 MW) scored three runs. Nevada added a pair of solo homers in the sixth to finish with the 6-3 win.
The Wolf Pack first took a lead in the second with the first of two home runs by Kwynn Warner.
San Diego State responded with three runs in the third, thanks in part to a pair of Nevada errors. The Aztecs' first run came when Katie Byrd's groundout scored Zaria Meshack. Kelsey Munoz then hit a grounder to pitcher Amanda Geil, which scored Kiera Wright and, after Geil's throw sailed over the head of first baseman Kenzi Goins, Shelby Thompson on the error.
In the fifth, Nevada chased SDSU starting pitcher Marissa Moreno from the game with singles by Warner and Haley Burda, and a walk by Ashley Salausa. With one out and the bases loaded, Alex Formby replaced Moreno in the circle and struck out pinch hitter Rachel Rodriguez swinging. Sadaria McAlister, however, singled down the right-field line to score two runs and Ali Tedford later scored on a throwing error by San Diego State.
In the sixth, Goins and Warner each had back-to-back homers to finish the scoring in the game.
The Aztecs had plenty of chances to score in the game, but finished 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position and 3-for-16 (.188) with runners on base. Altogether SDSU left eight on base.
Wright was perfect 3-for-3 on the day with a walk and a run to lead San Diego State, which was outhit, 9-5, in the game. Taylor Stewart was 1-for-1 with a walk in her three plate appearances, while Byrd singled and walked.
Moreno (3-14) took the loss after allowing four runs on four hits and a walk over 4 1/3 innings, striking out one. Formby gave up two runs on five hits and a walk over the final 2 2/3 innings.
