STOCKTON, Calif. - In a battle of the top two teams in the Golden Coast Conference standings, T-No. 21 San Diego State finished on the short end of a 13-10 score at seventh-ranked Pacific Friday night in Stockton. The loss dropped the Aztecs to 12-14 on the year and 4-2 in the GCC, while the Tigers moved to 13-7 (5-0 GCC).
UOP scored the first three goals of the game, all within the first three minutes of the ball drop. SDSU answered with power-play goals from Emily Bennett, which occurred 19 seconds after the Tigers' third goal, and Karli Canale with 1:45 left in the frame. In a bit of misfortune for San Diego State, Pacific's Kyra Christmas scored just before the buzzer to lift the home side to a 4-2 lead.
The Aztecs made their move in the second quarter, scoring the first two goals, both of which came off the right hand of Hannah Carrillo, tying the game at 4-4. Christmas and Aelish Guinn responded with single goals for UOP and Courtney Jarvis sliced SDSU deficit in half with her only goal of the game. Despite San Diego State's effort on offense, the Aztecs found themselves trailing, 7-5, at halftime following a Rachel Krieger goal with 51 seconds remaining in the half.
SDSU outscored Pacific in the third quarter, 2-1, with each team trading goals. First, Shelby Kraft scored off a feed from Katrina King with just under three minutes to go. Eighty seconds later, Karolina Hlavata answered and Kraft supplied the Aztecs with another goal, 23 seconds before the quarter horn, to get the visitors to within one of the Tigers at 8-7.
The final eight minutes featured a furious scoring pace with Pacific notching four of the first five goals. UOP surrounded a Maddy Parenteau goal with two pairs of goals to move out in front, 12-8. Carrillo provided a 6-on-5 goal and Parenteau chipped in her second of the night, but with 1:44 left in the game, SDSU's effort would come up short. Hlavata added another goal to provide the final margin.
NOTE I
Hannah Carrillo scored for the ninth consecutive game, extending a season-long streak. Her three goals led SDSU and the junior took the team lead with her fifth hat trick of 2018.

Maura Cantoni made a game-high 12 saves, giving her three double-digit save games in her last three outings. She has 36 stops in her last three contests.
