SAN DIEGO -
Boston Univ. 1, San Diego State 0
San Diego State lost a pitching duel to Boston Univ., 1-0, in the final game of the San Diego Classic Sunday afternoon at SDSU Softball Stadium.
The Terriers (7-6) scored the lone run of the game in the top of the fourth inning when Emma Wong's two-out triple scored Jilee Schanda.
The Aztecs (8-12) and BU each only managed five hits apiece against Boston pitcher Cali Dolfi, and SDSU pitchers Marissa Moreno and Alex Formby, respectively. Dolfi allowed just the five hits (all singles) and a walk over seven scoreless innings, while striking out two. Moreno (2-4) was the tough luck loser for San Diego State, yielding one run on three hits and a walk over 3 2/3 innings, recording two strikeouts. Formby, meanwhile, tossed 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief with just two hits allowed.
San Diego State's first time getting into scoring position came in the bottom of the sixth inning on a pair of singles by Alizae Umi and Katie Byrd. Molly Sturdivant, however, flied out down the right-field line to keep the Aztecs off the scoreboard.
SDSU also threatened in the seventh as Iesha Hill singled and Taylor Stewart walked. Dolfi got out of the jam by getting Shelby Thompson to ground into a fielder's choice and Anna Sherburne to ground out to end the game.
Hill had two of San Diego State's five hits in the game to pace the offense.
