Aztecs head to UCLA for Jim Bush Legends Invitational
The Aztecs continue their outdoor season this weekend when they travel North to compete at the Jim Bush Legends Invitational at UCLA's Drake Stadium on Saturday. 25 Aztecs will be competing in the meet with five athletes competing in multiple individual events. Asia Smith will compete in three events: the 100m hurdles, the high jump and shot put. Cari Acosta (shot put & discus), Callista Fletcher (100m & 200m), Kambridge Van Der Veur (shot put and discus) and Jasmine Young (200m & 400m hurdles) will be competing in two events a piece.
Cassidy Towner will get things started for the Aztecs Friday evening, running the 1500m as part of the Bob Larsen Distance Carnival. On Saturday, the women's portion of the meet begins at noon with the pole vault, long jump and high jump. The track events get started at 2:05 p.m. with the 4x100m relay. This will be the first time this season the Aztecs compete in this relay; the group of Micha Auzenne, Simone Glenn, Ashley Henderson and Rochene Smith set a school record in this event last year with a time of 42.99.
Ashley Henderson, along with Callista Fletcher, Tyra Lea and Jasmine Young, will run the 200m at 4:50 p.m., her first race of the outdoor season. The meet will close out with the 4x400m relay at 5:40 p.m., an event the Aztecs took second in last weekend.

SDSU Has Strong Showing at Aztec Invitational Last Weekend
San Diego State hosted the 40th annual Aztec pen & Invitational last weekend, welcoming over 2,200 athletes and 30 colleges to the Aztrack Sports Deck.
In the Open portion of the meet, the Aztecs had three first place finishes and eight top-three finishes. The Aztecs took the first two spots in the 400m dash. Tyra Lea earned first place with a time of 56.19 and Lakin Hatcher grabbed second, coming in at 57.35. Angela Wilson cruised to a first place finish in the 800m run. Her time of 2:15.92 was more than two seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Je'Neal Ainsworth was the other Aztec to finish in first on Friday. She cleared 11.77 meters in the triple jump, 0.21 meters ahead of her closest competition.
Other top three Aztec finishes in the Open included: Jelena McNown in the long jump (2nd; 5.56m), Cassidy Towner (2nd; 9:57.43) Hannah Taylor in the high jump (T3rd; 1.62m) and Jasmine Young in the 400m hurdles (3rd; 1:04.08).
In Saturday's Invite, the Aztecs had many strong performances including five top five finishes. A day after winning the triple jump open competition, Je'Neal Ainsworth was the top collegiate finisher (second overall) in the triple jump invite, clearing 12.15 meters (39' 10.5", wind-aided), ten inches ahead of the next collegiate competitor. Tyra Lea, who won the 400m dash Open on Friday, followed that up by taking third on Saturday, improving her time from 56.19 to 55.22. Lisa-Anne Barrow earned a fourth place finish in the long jump, tying her career best mark of 5.96 (wind-aided). Barrow also grabbed fifth place in the 200m dash with a time of 24.03, just 0.19 seconds off her personal best time. The Aztecs had an impressive showing in the pole vault. Bonnie Draxler, competing unattached, took first place, clearing 4.27m. Marissa Berry, who won her last pole vault competition at Point Loma Nazarene, tied for third with a mark of 3.97m.
