SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Led by a four-RBI performance by Jordan Verdon, the San Diego State baseball team took a 9-7 road decision at Cal Poly Friday night. The Aztecs improve to 12-5 on the year, while Cal Poly falls to 7-11.

The Aztecs opened the game with a 6-0 lead, including a three-run first inning. Matt Rudick, who led the Aztecs at the top of the order with a 3-for-4 performance, started the game off with a leadoff single. The bats continued to produce after Chad Bible reached on a two-out error, with Jordan Verdon capitalizing on a 2-RBI double and Dean Nevarez following with an RBI single.

Cal Poly knotted the game up at 6-6 with a five-run sixth inning. The Aztecs made a move to the bullpen after a fine start from Jacob Erickson, who allowed just one run on five hits in a five-inning performance.

Jorge Fernandez, who ultimately earned his third win of the season, positioned the Aztecs well in the late stages of the game. Fernandez finished his performance with 2.1 innings pitched, allowing only one hit and one unearned run.

The Aztecs ultimately captured the win with a three-run seventh inning. Rudick scored on a Bible RBI single, before Verdon recorded his second two-RBI double of the day to bring home Bible and Chase Calabuig.

Jacob Flores collected his first save of the year, posting a shutout ninth inning with only one hit allowed.

The Aztecs and Mustangs continue its series with a Saturday contest beginning at 6:00 p.m.
