NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. - No. 14 San Diego State could not hold a fourth-quarter lead and finished on the short end of a 5-4 score in its Barbara Kalbus Invitational game vs. 17th-ranked UC Santa Barbara on Saturday. The Aztecs fell to 5-6 on the year and the Gauchos improved to 10-6.

Shelby Kraft gave SDSU a 4-2 lead with 7:15 left in the game, but San Diego State's defense could not stop the late surge by UCSB. Kate Coski started the rally with a goal more than two minutes after Kraft's strike and Natalie Selin leveled the score with 3:56 to go.

Selin put the Gauchos on top with a goal, giving the Aztecs 94 seconds to find the equalizer. Down the stretch, SDSU drew a penalty shot, but Hannah Carrillo's attempt with 1:03 left was unsuccessful. Despite the disappointment, the Aztecs still had a chance to tie the score, but came up empty as UC Santa Barbara avenged an early season loss to SDSU.

STAT OF THE GAME
The trio of Emily Bennett, Katrina King and Shelby Kraft was responsible for 10 of SDSU's 16 steals. Kraft led the Aztecs with four thefts.

NOTE
After trailing 1-0, San Diego State scored three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 lead into halftime. Emily Bennett, Katrina King and Maddy Parenteau (penalty shot) were the goal scorers.
