The San Diego State softball team downed Liberty, 7-0, for its third consecutive victory Thursday night at Cathedral City near Palm Springs. The Aztecs are now 4-8, while the Lady Flames dropped to 9-2.

SDSU put up five runs in the second, a run in the fifth and one in the seventh in the 7-0 win.

Molly Sturdivant's grand slam in the second proved to be the winner after Katie Byrd earlier knocked in the first run with a single. It was Sturdivant's team-leading fourth home run of the season.

In the fifth, San Diego State added to its lead when Megan Smith's double scored Thompson from third.

In the seventh, Aris Metcalfe pinch ran for Taylor Stewart after her walk, stole second, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a fielding error with Jordyn Fick at the plate.

Byrd, Sturdivant, Thompson and Smith had two hits apiece for the Aztecs, who outhit Liberty, 10-4, in the contest.

The offense was plenty for Marissa Moreno in the circle. Moreno (2-2) tossed the complete game shutout, scattering just four hits (all singles) and two walks, while striking out four.

NOTE I
SDSU tied its season high with 10 hits and now has a combined 27 hits over its last three games (all victories).
