SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The San Diego State swimming and diving concluded the Mountain West Championships at the Palo Alto College Aquatic Center and placed second for the team's ninth consecutive top-three finish. The Aztecs finished with 1105.5 points, 144.5 points behind Mountain West champion Boise State.
SDSU freshman Klara Thormalm was named Freshman of the Meet, making it back-to-back years the Aztecs have won that honor with McKenna Meyer claiming that title in 2017. Thormalm led all freshmen in the meet with 321 power points, while her sister, Alma, posted a team-best 443 points - the 13th most among 135 ranked student-athletes.
McKenna Meyer finished in fourth place in the 1650 free and posted the second-fastest time in school history at 16:28.90. Alma Thormalm also posted a top-five finish in the 100 free, recording a time of 49.79 for the fifth-fastest time in program history.
Klara Thormalm recorded a second-place finish and the third fastest time ever by an Aztec in the 200 breast at 2:12.13. In the very next event, Frida Berggren reeled in her second individual title of the MW championships, inching out Emily Huffer of New Mexico in the 200 fly by 0.35 seconds with a first-place time of 1:58.05. Berggren's time also stands as the second fastest in school history and sits just .04 seconds behind Summer Harrison's school record of 1:58.01.
Alexandra Caplan led SDSU in platform diving competition, posting a score of 238.89.
The Aztecs wrapped up the meet in the 400 free relay and placed second with a time of 3:18.78 - the fastest by an Aztec group this season. McKenna Meyer led the quad with a time of 49.37 in the relay, while Klara Thormalm (49.50), Peyton Wilson (49.89), and Alma Thormalm (50.02) also contributed to SDSU's second-place finish.
