- San Diego State continues their road trip and will play at UNLV Saturday afternoon (3:00 p.m. PT). It is the Lady Rebels' Play4Kay game, which raises awareness for breast cancer.
- Saturday's game will be streamed live on the Mountain West Network and there will also be an audio-only webcast on GoAztecs.com with Chris Ello calling the action.
- The Aztecs fell at Wyoming 70-50 Wednesday evening. The Cowgirls, the conference's best three-point shooting team, went 13-for-27 from behind the arc and used a 20-0 first half run to give them a double-digit lead that the Aztecs couldn't recover from.
- The Aztecs were led by McKynzie Fort's 17 points as she moved past Paris Johnson, the current SDSU Director of Player Personnel, in to third place on the San Diego State all-time scoring list. Geena Gomez chipped in 10 points and five rebounds.
- McKynzie Fort now has 1,613 career points. Next up on the SDSU all-time scoring list is Falisha Wright (1992-95) with 1,733 career points.
- Entering Saturday's contest, Fort occupies the third spot in the Mountain West with an average of 16.5 points per game. She is also tenth in assists (3.6/gm) and in field-goal percentage (.466). In addition, senior Geena Gomez (10.0 ppg) is seventh in assists (3.9/gm), ninth in three-point accuracy (.377) and tenth in three-pointers made per game (1.8).
- The Aztecs have already set a program record for season attendance. With two home games still remaining, the Aztecs have had 21,142 fans through 14 games for an average of 1,510. This breaks the total and average attendance records set in 2007-08, when the Aztecs drew 14,730 fans for an average of 1,133 per game.
- Collectively, the Aztecs are slotted fifth in the MW this week in three-point field goal percentage (33.9) and sixth in three-pointers made (7.0/gm). They also rank fifth in rebounding margin (-0.2) and sixth in rebounds per game (37.3).
- As a team, SDSU is averaging 64.7 points per game while yielding 68.3 on the defensive side of the ball. In addition, the Aztecs are shooting 39.4 percent from the floor and 33.9 percent from three-point territory.
- Following Saturday's encounter, San Diego State returns home for their final two home games. They host Air Force Wednesday the 21st at 6:30 p.m. PT and San Jose State Saturday at 1:00 p.m. PT for senior day.
All-Time Series vs. UNLV
- Saturday's game will mark the 57th meeting between the two schools, with the all-time series being knotted at 28-28.
- The Lady Rebels have won five of the past seven meetings.
- The Aztecs are 10-19 all-time at UNLV and have lost their past four games there.
- The Aztecs lost to the Lady Rebels 75-64 earlier this season after holding an 18-point first half lead (1/27/18). Geena Gomez and Khalia Lark led the Aztecs with 17 points a piece..
- Their first meeting was in 1979, a 78-58 UNLV win in Las Vegas.
Scouting the Lady Rebels
- UNLV has won five of their past six games. Their lone loss in that span came at Wyoming last week, a 69-56 setback.
- At 10-3, the Lady Rebels are tied for first in the Mountain West with Wyoming. Although the Cowgirls hold the head-to-head tiebreaker.
- UNLV is 9-4 overall at home this season and 5-1 in conference play.
- UNLV has three players scoring in double digits, led by Katie Powell, who scores 16.2 points per game and hauls in 9.1 rebounds per contest, the second best rate in the conference. Powell's 11 double-doubles are the second most in the MW.
- Brooke Johnson leads the team in minutes (36.2 pg) and assists (3.9 pg) and is second on the team in scoring (15.9 ppg). Nikki Wheatley averages 13.7 ppg.
- Collectively, UNLV leads the conference in rebounds per game (41.2) and rebound margin (+6.3).
- They are in the top 25 in the nation in free-throws made (14th) and attempted (22nd).
- However, UNLV is 10th in turnovers (16.8 pg) and ninth in three-point percentage (28.1)
- Head coach Kathy Oliver (9th season), a former All-American at UNLV, was the head coach at UCLA for 15 years (1993-2008).
