SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The San Diego State swimming & diving team capped off the first day of the Mountain West championships with a share of first place with Nevada, owning 189 total points.
The Aztecs recorded a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay, with Alma Thormalm, Caitlin Delany, Summer Harrison and Klara Thormalm teaming up to post an SDSU season-best time of 1:38.69 – just .46 seconds behind first-place finisher Boise State.
It was another tightly-contested race in the 800 free relay, with SDSU finishing third with a season-best time of 7:12.28, trailing only Nevada (7:08.17) and Boise State (7:11.39). The effort was led by McKenna Meyer, who posted a team-best 1:45.38 in the race, while Frida Berggren (1:47.54), Marina Preiss (1:49.76) and Kassidy Henson (1:49.60) also contributed in the relay.
Alexandra Caplan led the Aztecs in 1-meter diving action, posting a finals score of 283.83 to finish in sixth place. Her performance was complemented by a seventh-place finish by Marie Yacopino, who recorded a score of 265.14. Delaney Gallagher (11th, 256.05) and Nicole Dutton (15th, 251.85) also finished in the event's top 15.
Tomorrow's finals events include the 200 free relay, the 500 free, the 200 yard IM, the 50 free, and 3-meter diving.
