SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's tennis team is gearing up for a pair of matches this week, first up to No. 14 California this Thursday, Feb. 1, where they will take on the Golden Bears at 1:30 p.m. at the Hellman Tennis Complex. Following the trip to Berkeley, SDSU returns to the Aztec Tennis Center where they will host UC Davis on Saturday, Feb. 3, with first serve set for noon.

SDSU's dual against the Golden Bears marks the Scarlet and Black's first matchup against a ranked opponent this season. Last season, the Aztecs hosted Cal in San Diego but finished the dual scoreless to the then-eighth ranked Bears, 7-0. Cal, currently 1-1, opened its spring schedule by hosting the ITA kickoff weekend Jan. 26-27 where they defeated UNLV 4-3 to advance to the finals, but dropped 4-3 to then-No. 12 University of Texas-Austin in the finals.

The Aggies, also at 3-0 on the season, opened the spring at Portland State with a 6-1 victory, then visited the University of Portland to claim a 5-2 win the following day. Last weekend, Davis hosted Santa Clara where they came out on top, 5-2. The Aztecs most recently hosted the Aggies in February of 2016 where SDSU claimed the doubles point and current seniors Jana Buth and Paola Diaz nabbed singles victories to contribute to a 4-3 win.

SDSU enters the pair of matches at 3-0 following last weekend's wins over UC San Diego (5-2) and UC Irvine (7-0). Seniors Buth and Diaz notched a perfect 2-0 over the weekend's doubles matches, while Buth, juniors Magda Aubets and Jenny Moinard, and freshmen Nnena Nadozie and Abbie Mulbarger all claimed a pair of singles wins.

Results from Thursday and Saturday's duals will be available following the conclusion of matches at www.GoAztecs.com. Following this week's events, the Aztecs will host Point Loma Nazarene on Monday, Feb. 5, at 2:30 p.m. at the ATC.
