SAN DIEGO - San Diego State women's soccer head coach Mike Friesen announced the addition of Florence Laroche to the program on Tuesday. The Canadian National Team player is enrolled at SDSU will be participate in spring workouts and compete starting with the 2018 campaign.
"We are excited to have a player like Florence, who has international experience having played in the U-17 World Cup and experienced soccer at such a high level, coming into our program," Friesen said. "To have her here at mid-year and get her acclimated to our program and the university is huge.
"We are expecting big things out of Florence," Friesen added. "She is going to play several different positions for us, both up front and in the midfield, but more than that, she is a great kid, a hard worker and a good student that is going to help our program win another championship."
Hailing from Mirabel, Québec, Canada, Laroche made her debut with the Canadian program in 2016, and then represented her country at the 2016 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Jordan. She played 59 minutes as a starter in a 3-2 win over Cameroon and logged 32 minutes in a 1-1 draw with Germany.
After her World Cup stint, Laroche over the last nine months has participated in three Canadian Women's EXCEL U-20 camps in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada, in preparation for January's CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship in Trinidad and Tobago, and a U-20 tournament in Australia.
Laroche is joining an Aztec program that captured the 2017 Mountain West championship, their fourth in the last six years, and earned an NCAA tournament berth for the first time since 2014.
