SAN DIEGO -

Former Aztec Stephen Strasburg and women's golf senior Haleigh Krause were two of eight athletes named Stars of the Month for August by the San Diego Hall of Champions recently.

Strasburg, who played atop Montezuma Mesa from 2007-09, put together a dominant month of August as a starting pitcher on the Washington Nationals.

After starting the month with six innings pitched and two earned runs in San Diego on Aug. 19, Strasburg did not allow a run to score through his next two starts. In Houston on Aug. 24, he threw six more innings while only giving up three hits and striking out seven.

Strasburg finished the month in Washington D.C. by throwing a complete game shutout and recording eight strikeouts against Miami on Aug. 30. He also hit a home run to give the Nationals the lead in the fifth inning. Overall, Strasburg completed the month with a miniscule 0.86 ERA and 23 strikeouts across three starts.

Strasburg, a two-time consensus first-team All-America selection and Mountain West Pitcher of the Year, was inducted into the Aztec Hall of Fame in 2014.

Krause, meanwhile, won the Oregon Women's Stroke Play Championship after posting a combined 3-under-par 141 at Rose City Golf Club on Aug. 16.

The Aztec senior led the entire way to become the only competitor in the 47-player field to finish the tournament below par. Krause sank six birdies during the final round to defeat Hannah Swanson (+3) and Victoria Gailey (+4) on the par-72, 5,942-yard layout.

In all, Krause drained nine birdies for the week to win her second Oregon Golf Association championship after winning the Oregon Junior Stroke Play crown in 2012.
