San Diego State-Washington State Final Box

FULLERTON, Calif. (AP) - Devin Watson had 23 points and six assists, and Trey Kell added 19 points, but it was not enough as San Diego State fell to Washington State in the championship game of the Wooden Legacy, 93-86, on Sunday night.

Malachi Flynn had 24 points and Robert Franks added 22 to lead the Cougars to the championship. WSU (6-0) rallied from nine points down midway through the second half to stun the Aztecs (5-2).

Flynn added six assists and five rebounds and was named the tournament MVP. It was the first tourney title for Washington State in eight seasons.

The Aztecs appeared in control with a 73-64 lead with 8:25 to play, but Washington State answered with a 25-9 run to reclaim the lead for good.

The Cougars had also trailed Saint Joseph's by 20 points in their first game of the tournament before rallying to win.

San Diego State outrebounded the Cougars 44-35, but Washington State connected on 13-of-28 3-point attempts. The Aztecs, who entered the game only a 34.0 shooting team from the 3-point line, hit on 8-of-30 3-pointers.

The Aztecs played the entire second half without leading scorer Malik Pope, who appeared to injure his right ankle in the first half.
