SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego State men's tennis team has added another event to its fall schedule, with four Aztecs slated to compete this weekend at the Larry Easley Memorial Championships, Nov. 3-5, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The SDSU contingent features junior Sander Gjoels-Andersen (Klampenborg, Denmark), sophomores Joel Popov (Tampere, Finland) and Arnaud Restifo (Nice, France), along with freshman Ignacio Martinez (Weston, Fla.).
Martinez leads the group with four singles victories this fall, including a pair of wins in both main draw and consolation play last month at the ITA Southwest Regional Championships in Malibu, California.
UNLV will serve as host to the three-day tournament, which also includes players from Northern Arizona and UCLA.
The action gets underway at Fertita Tennis Complex on Friday at 9 a.m. PT and consists of one flight of doubles and singles competition, along with consolation rounds in both.
UNLV's annual event was renamed in 2010 to honor the late Dr. Larry Easley, who passed away in 2005 due to illness after serving as the head coach of the Rebel men's program from 1992-2003.
UCLA's Joe DiGuilio defeated Mathieu Garcia of Portland to capture last year's singles title, while the Bruin pairing of DiGuilio and Austin Rapp knocked off Portland's tandem of Garcia and Michail Pervolarakis to claim the doubles crown.
Following the Larry Easley Memorial Championships, San Diego State will compete in one final event before the winter break when it drives north for the LMU Fall Invitational, Nov. 10-12, in Los Angeles, California.
