The Burlsworth Trophy is given to the most outstanding collegiate football player who began his career as a walk-on and has shown outstanding performance on the field. Nominees must have started their first season of participation with a Division I football program without financial aid of any kind from their athletic department. The trophy is named in honor of former Arkansas walk-on and All-American offensive lineman Brandon Burlsworth.

Warring, who was given a scholarship prior to the 2017 season, has played in all nine games this year with two starts, making 13 catches for 185 yards (14.2 avg.) and two touchdowns. Warring is tied for the team lead with two touchdown catches, and ranks second in receiving yards and third in receptions. Over his career, Warring has played in 13 games with two starts, recording 15 receptions for 202 yards (13.5 avg.) and four touchdowns.

Previous Aztec nominees for the award include Daniel Brunskill (2016), Dakota Gordon (2015), Joel Alesi (2014) and Chad Young (2013).

The 2016 winner was Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield.

The Springdale Rotary Club will host an awards ceremony on Dec. 4 in Springdale, Ark., to honor the three finalists and announce the 2017 winner.

SDSU (7-2, 3-2 MW) plays its final regular-season road game of the season at 7:30 p.m. PT Saturday at San José State (1-8, 0-4 MW).
