The San Diego State swimming and diving team looks to continue a successful start to the 2017-18 campaign in Davis, California this weekend with a dual meet against UC Davis on Saturday, Oct. 21.
The Aztecs, winners of 16 consecutive dual meets, are familiar with the Aggies squad in 2017-18, having competed against them in the Nevada Relays on Sept. 30. The Aztecs finished second in the meet with 152 points - 50 points higher than third-place UC Davis.
Most recently, the Aztecs recorded a strong performance at the Chick-fil-A Invitational in Fresno, California, placing second among the field of five teams. The Aztecs finished ahead of three Mountain West programs, including Nevada, Fresno State and San Jose State. California ended up taking home first-place honors at the Chick-fil-A Invitational, as the reigning national runner-ups posted 1318.5 points in the two-day event.
McKenna Meyer has been one of the many bright spots for the Aztecs this season, as her season-best 1.51.59 in the 200 free, 4:57.36 in the 500 free, 10:23.23 in the 1000 free are all the second-best times in the Mountain West this season. The sophomore's time of 17:08.03 in the Chick-fil-A Invitational in the 1650 free is the best time in the MW this year and the ninth best time in the country and her time of 4:22.48 in the 400 IM is the best in the league and 29th best in the nation.
Caitlin Delaney's time of 1:04.69 in the 100 breast at the Chick-fil-A Invitational is the top time in the MW this year. Delaney's time of 30.77 in the 50 breast in the season-opening pentathlon against San Diego is the third best time in the league. In the 200 fly, Frida Berggren's season-best time of 2:04.42 in Fresno is the best in the league, while here time of 2:05.36 in the 200 IM at the Chick-fil-A Invitational is the third best in the league - just one spot behind teammate McKenna Meyer's time of 2:04.16.
On the diving board, Alexandra Caplan's score of 279.40 at the Chick-fil-A Invitational is the second best 1-meter score in the MW.
Following the square-off with UC Davis, the Aztec divers will head to Los Angeles from Nov. 10-12 for the Trojan Invite at Southern California. The Aztec Aquaplex sees its first action of the year from Nov. 16-18 with the A3 Invitational hosted by UC San Diego.
