SAN DIEGO -

In celebration of the San Diego State men’s soccer program’s 50th anniversary, the team has released its second of five All-Era teams to be released this fall, with the 1980-89 team being announced on Monday. The team features a pair of players in the National Soccer Hall of Fame and four players who went to compete in the World Cup.

Highlighted by a run to the NCAA National Championship match in 1987, the 1980’s was one of the most successful eras for the program on the Mesa. Chuck Clegg took over as the team’s head coach in 1982 after previously serving as an assistant coach, and he helped the program to a 142-50-22 record (.715 winning percentage) during the 1980-89 era.
