50K For 50 Years Fundraising Campaign

The San Diego State men's soccer team has released the first of its five All-Era teams to be released this fall, beginning with the 1968-1979 All-Era squad. The teams will be released each Monday for the following weeks to celebrate the program's 50th anniversary.
From SDSU's first ever men's soccer contest - a 5-1 win over UC San Diego in 1968 - the Aztecs became a dominant force on the college soccer scene from the very beginning. Including the program's first-ever NCAA appearance in 1969, the Aztecs went 120-42-13 from 1968-1979 for an impressive .723 winning percentage. SDSU recorded seven consecutive seasons of 10 or more wins to end the 1968-1979 era.
1968-1979 SDSU ALL-ERA TEAM
Head Coach: George Logan
- The head coach for the duration of the 1968-1979 era, having led the Aztecs from 1968-1981. During his career, Logan accumulated a 148-48-17 record with two NCAA Tournament appearances.
Assistant Coach: Chuck Clegg
- A SDSU men's soccer student-athlete from 1974-1976 and 1970, Clegg joined the coaching ranks in 1977 as an assistant under George Logan. Clegg was in his assistant coach role until assuming head coaching duties 1982.
GK Willem Van Der Wal (1969-70)
- Sixth in program history with a 0.99 career goals against average (minimum 1,500 minutes)
- In 1970, posted the eighth best single-season goals against average at 0.88 (minimum 750 minutes)
D Peter Goossens (1969-72)
- 1969 First Team All-American, first All-American in school history and first-ever from Southern California
- All-Southern California and All-Southern Section performer
- Manned backline that allowed just 14 goals in 11 games to help the Aztecs to a 9-1-1 record in 1969
D Seamus McFadden (1974-76)
- SDSU's fourth-ever professional signee, signing with the San Diego Jaws in 1975
- Currently in his 39th season as head men's soccer coach at the University of San Diego, His 377 career wins entering the season is eighth most among active DI coaches.
D Jeff Wollrabe (1976, 1978-80)
- Was a part of 26 SDSU shutouts during his career, including 10 during his senior campaign in 1980
D Dean Wurzberger (1971-1974)
- One of SDSU's first-ever professional signees, signing with the Seattle Sounders in 1974
- Became the University of Washington's first-ever men's soccer coach in 1992, and served in that role until 2010.
MF Glenn Campbell (1969-1972)
- 1970 NSCAA All-Far West selection
MF Charles Delong (1968-1971)
- One of SDSU's first-ever professional signees, signing with the Dallas Tornado in 1974
MF Alan Kelly (1974-1977)
- Tied for third in program history with 28 career assists, eighth in program history with 28 career goals
- SDSU's first two-time All-American, including a First Team selection in 1977
- SDSU's seventh professional signee, singing with the Los Angeles Aztecs in 1977
- Led team in scoring for three consecutive years, with nine goals in 1975, seven goals in 1976, and nine goals in 1977
F Vidal Fernandez (1977-79)
- Scored 13 goals in 1977, good for ninth most in a single season at SDSU
- 34 points in 1979 is good for eighth most in a single season at SDSU
- 34 career goals is tied for fourth most in a season in SDSU record books
- 78 career points stands as the fifth most in program history
- 1978 NSCAA All-Far West selection
- Inducted in the SDSU Hall of Fame in 1993
- Landed professional contract with the New York Cosmos in 1979
F Steve Robertson (1974-76)
- Posted 18 goals in 1975, the third most ever in a single season at SDSU
- Tallied 14 goals in 1974, tied for the seventh most in a single season in program history
- 37 career goals is the third most in program history, 68 career points is tied for seventh most at SDSU
- 1975 NSCAA All-Far West selection
- Signed professional contract with the San Diego Sockers in 1977
F Jim Tollerton (1969-71)
- Sixth in program history with 32 career goals, tied for seventh with 68 career points
- Scored 12 goals in 1969, 11 goals in 1971, and nine goals in 1970
SDSU will release the 1980-1989 All-Era team next Monday, Sept. 18. The Aztecs host Cal Poly on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
