CARY, N.C. - For the second consecutive year, San Diego State baseball assistant coach Joe Oliveira will coach Southern California's 14-and-under squad in USA Baseball's National Team Identification Series this weekend. All games take place at USA Baseball's National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.

SoCal kicks off the tournament on Friday at 8:00 a.m. ET against New England. Should SoCal advance past New England, the squad will play again on Friday at 4:30 p.m., playing the winner of the Mountain West and South Florida contest. The championship of the 16-team tournament is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 27.

The showcase is considered the most comprehensive player identification program offered by Team USA. In addition to the schedule games, the NTIS features individual skills testing, high-profile guest speakers, and professional-style instruction.

Oliveira led last year's SoCal team to a 3-0 showing. Oliveira enters his fifth season with the Aztecs and was named the Mountain West Conference's top recruiter in a vote by league head coaches through D1Baseball.com in 2016. Since Oliveira's arrival, SDSU has had a recruiting class ranked 27th or better nationally each year.
