San Diego State's cross country team kicks off the 2017 campaign on Sept 2, head coach Shelia Burrell announced today.

SDSU's schedule features five regular season meets, three of which will take place in Southern California. Visits to California's capital and Las Vegas also appear on San Diego State's ledger.

The Aztecs' season gets underway at the Mark Covert Classic, hosted by Cal State Fullerton, on Sept. 2. The 5K will run at Carbon Canyon Regional Park in Brea, Calif.

Two weeks later on Sept. 16, the Scarlet and Black heads to Riverside, Calif., for the 37th annual UC Riverside Invitational 6K, held on the Highlanders' AgOps Course.

On Sept. 23, the Aztecs venture to Mountain West foe UNLV for the UNLV Invitational. The 5K will be held at Craig Ranch Regional Park in North Las Vegas, Nev.

SDSU visits Sacramento's Haggin Oaks Golf Complex, site of the 2016 NCAA West Regional, on Sept. 30 for the Capital Cross Challenge.

San Diego State concludes its regular season by returning to Riverside for the Highlander Invitational 5K on Oct. 14.

The Mountain West Cross Country Championships, hosted by New Mexico, are set for Oct. 27 on UNM's North Golf Course. The conference meet is followed by the NCAA West Regional on Nov. 10 in Seattle.

In 2016, the Aztecs raced to the program's second fastest NCAA Regional 6K team time and its third fastest Mountain West Cross Country Championship 6K team time. Five runners were named Mountain West Scholar-Athletes and six runners were named to the Mountain West all-academic team.
