SAN JOSE, Calif. - San Diego State will try to complete a series and season sweep of San Jose State this afternoon when the teams meet for a contest scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. (PT) at Municipal Stadium in San Jose.

The Aztecs come into today's game with a record of 33-15 overall and 16-7 in the Mountain West while the Spartans ledger stands at 15-29-1 (8-16-1 MW). After taking three games from SJSU in San Diego earlier in the seasons, the Aztecs have won two of the first three this weekend in San Jose.

San Jose State was expected to start right-hander Joseph Balfour (0-3, 6.53) in this afternoon's game, but he was used in relief in Saturday's contest so his status as a starter today is in doubt.

SDSU will send senior right-hander Cody Thompson (1-0, 4.87) to the mound to start for the visitors.

In Saturday's 12-inning victory over the Spartans, the Aztecs got home runs from Tyler Adkison and Chase Calabuig.

For Adkison it was his 12th of the season as he drove in his team-leading 42nd run of the season in the 41st game in which he has appeared. His three hits in the contest upped his season batting average to the .359 mark, currently second on the team behind David Hensley (.369).

Calabuig, meanwhile, connected for his sixth homer of the year, one of his two hits that saw him raise his average to .306. His second hit in the game, a two-out RBI double in the top of the 12th, drive in the winning run. He would also score an insurance run in that same frame on Danny Sheehan's single.

With eight regular-season games remaining, the Aztecs' team stats are among the best in recent history.

SDSU's .312 batting average is its highest since finishing with a .315 average in 2005. The team's .979 fielding mark is better than the school record fielding percentage of .978 set during the 2013 campaign. And the pitching staff's .355 earned run average is the best since 1996 when SDSU ended the year with a 3.31 ERA.

After today's game in San Jose, San Diego State will return home to prepare for next weekend's three-game conference series at Air Force. That set gets underway on Friday, May 12, with a game slated to begin at 3:00 p.m. (MT) at Falcon Field in Colorado Springs, Colo.
