AZTECS FINISH SECOND IN THE MOUNTAIN WEST
San Diego State ended its regular in sixth place in the Mountain West Conference standings with a record of 11-19 in league play. With that finish, the Aztecs earned the No. 2 seed at this week's Mountain West Tournament. The second-place finish equals the team's best under head Coach Mark Martinez in his four years at the helm of the program. SDSU has finished third or higher in the final conference standings five times in the past six seasons. This year's tourney is a four-team event with only the top four finishers in the final conference standings qualifying to compete.
2017 MOUNTAIN WEST TOURNAMENT
By virtue of its league finish, San Diego State will be the number-two seed at this week's tournament. That championship event gets underway on Thursday, May 25, at Santa Ana Star Field in Albuquerque, N.M. New Mexico won the conference regular-season title by percentage points over the Aztecs with a final record of 19-9-1. The Lobos had a game washed out at San Jose State with another ending in a tie. SDSU's second-place seeding means it will face Fresno State in the opening game of the four-team tournament bracket. That contest is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m. (MDT) Thursday. An Aztec victory over the Bulldogs would move them into the game against the winner of the Nevada-New Mexico game set to get underway at 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. (MDT).

Former Head Coach Jim Dietz had 93 wins in his opening three seasons while Tony Gwynn accumulated 90 in his first three years.

The pitchers include Brett Seeburger, Dominic Purpura, Marcus Reyes, Cody Thompson and CJ Saylor.

He finished with four RBI in that contest as well.
