LOGAN, Utah - Day Three Results
San Diego State track and field junior Bonnie Draxler earned her third Mountain West pole vault title and the Aztecs are in second following a spectacular third day of the Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Utah State's Ralph Maughn Stadium, on Friday.
San Diego State's stellar day has the team second with seven events scored. SDSU's 40.5 points trail Colorado State (56). Nevada (38.5), San José State (25) and Fresno State (24) round out the top five.
Draxler earned the Scarlet and Black's sixth outdoor pole vault conference title in seven years, as she leaped to a 13-11.25 mark. It was Draxler's third conference pole vault title and her first outdoor conference crown. Sophomore Marissa Berry captured silver with her 13-07.75 showing. Sophomore Sara Curran posted a collegiate best at 12-05.25 to place sixth.
In the long jump, sophomore Lisa-Anne Barrow earned silver with a 20-03.00 mark, which would rank sixth all-time if not for the high wind at 3.4 meters per second.
Senior Micha Auzenne set the Mountain West record in the 100-meter hurdles with a 12.95 time in the preliminary round. Because the wind measured outside of wind legality at 2.9 meters per second, the time does not count on the program's top-10 list. Also qualifying for the 100 hurdles final tomorrow at 4:20 p.m. (MT) is sophomore Sierra Brabham -Lawrence (5th, 13.29) and freshman Andrenette Knight (6th, 13.35).
A trio of Aztecs will appear in the 200 meters final tomorrow after today's prelims. Junior Ashley Henderson paced the field with a 22.58 time, which would have been a collegiate best and the program's second-fastest time if not for the 3.2-meters-per-second wind. Classmate Simone Glenn recorded the best time of her collegiate career and the program's third-best mark at 23.02 for third. Sophomore Lisa-Anne Barrow also qualified for the 200 meters final tomorrow at 6:15 p.m. (MT) after racing to a 23.49 time and a sixth-place finish.
San Diego State will have four representatives in tomorrow's 100-meter dash final, set for 5:15 p.m. (MT). Henderson took second with a 11.16 time, while Auzenne was fourth (her 11.33 time would rank third all-time if it was wind legal). Junior Rochene Smith was fifth (11.45) and senior Starlynn Singleton was eighth (11.61).
The Aztecs qualified a pair of runners each for tomorrow's 400 meters and 400-meter hurdles finals following today's prelims. In the 400 hurdles, freshman Andrenette Knight crossed the finish line in 57.99 to lead the pack and record the program's fourth-fastest time. Junior Jasmine Young also qualified for the final, posting a 1:01.68 mark. In the 400, meanwhile, Glenn and senior Tyra Lea will race in the final after placing third (55.20) and fifth (55.08) respectively. Tomorrow's 400 meters final is set for 4:40 p.m. (MT) and the 400 hurdles final is on tap for 5:55 p.m. (MT).
Junior Monique McPherson is SDSU's lone representative in tomorrow's 800 meters final at 5:35 p.m. (MT) after placing sixth with a 2:11.90 time in today's preliminary round.
The final day of the Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships gets underway at 2:30 p.m. (MT) with senior Rachel Alesi in the shot put. The meet concludes for SDSU with the 4x400-meter relay at 7:25 p.m. (MT).
