San Diego State track and field senior Kassidy Ellis rose one spot to finish sixth in the heptathlon at the 2017 Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Utah State's Ralph Maughn Stadium on Thursday.
Starting the day in seventh with 3,062 points after completing four of seven events, Ellis totaled 5,048 points for sixth place. Nevada's Nicole Wadden won the event with 5,595 points. Stella Clemens from UNLV took silver (5,451 points), followed by Fresno State's Jestena Mattson (5,333), New Mexico's Kyra Mohns (5,280) and San José State's Jade Childs (5,236).
The day started with the long jump, where Ellis recorded a season-long leap of 18-06.00 for third and picked up 741 points.
Ellis posted another season best in the javelin throw, launching the javelin 109 feet, 11 inches to take seventh and collect 543 points. She wrapped up the heptathlon with a ninth-place finish in the 800 meters (2:29.27) to garner 702 points.
With two events completed (in addition to the 10,000 meters, which was run today), San Diego State is in 10th place with three points. Nevada paces the field with 18 points, while Boise State has 12 points for second place. UNLV and Air Force are tied for third with eight points. In a three-way tie for fifth is San José State, Fresno State and Colorado State with six points apiece. New Mexico and Wyoming each have five points for eighth.
The Aztecs' day tomorrow starts at 10 a.m. (MT) with Freja Liljedahl's appearance in the hammer throw. Saturday will conclude with the 200-meter prelims at 6:25 p.m. (MT). Lisa-Anne Barrow, Simone Glenn, Ashley Henderson, Starlynn Singleton and Rochene Smith are scheduled to compete.
