SAN JOSE, Calif. - San Diego State and San Jose State will play the second game of their three-game weekend series this afternoon starting at 4:00 p.m. PT at Municipal Stadium in San Jose. SDSU got a leg up in the series with a come-from-behind 8-4 victory over the Spartans Friday evening.

With that win, the Aztecs improved to 32-15 overall and 15-7 in the Mountain West as they edged closer to securing at least a second-place finish in the conference standings.

The Spartans, meanwhile, saw their record dip to 15-28-1 overall and 8-15-1 in league action as they look to qualify for the upcoming conference tournament with at least a fourth-place showing in the final standings.

Toward that end, SJSU will send right-hander Jake Swiech (1-4, 6.08) to the mound to start this afternoon's contest.

San Diego State will counter with left-hander Dominic Purpura (6-2, 3.86). The senior hurler will be looking to regain the form that saw him win his first six outings of the season before suffering losses in each of his last two starts.

SDSU's hottest hitter of late has been shortstop Danny Sheehan, who is currently on a 12-game hitting streak during which he has gone 17-for-41 (.417) with three doubles, three home runs, 13 RBI and 12 runs scored. He has driven in at least one run in seven of the last eight games.

David Hensley continues to pace the Aztec hitters with a team-leading .368 batting average followed by Tyler Adkison at .353. Adkison leads the team in home runs with 11 and RBI with 41.

As a team, SDSU comes into today's action with a .311 batting average along with a 3.58 earned run average.

San Diego State and San Jose State will wrap up their three-game weekend series on Sunday, May 7, with a contest scheduled to get underway at 1:00 p.m. at Municipal Stadium.
