SAN DIEGO - San Diego State and New Mexico will play the middle game of their three-game weekend series this afternoon starting at 2:00 p.m. at Tony Gwynn Stadium.

The contest will be part of a First Responders Appreciation Day honoring police, fire department and emergency medical personnel with pre-game ceremonies set to begin at 1:40 p.m.

The Lobos come into today's game with a record of 24-18-1 overall and 15-3-1 in Mountain West play as they will look to solidify their hold on first place in the conference standings.

Toward that end, New Mexico will send right-hander Johnathan Tripp (3-1, 4.73) to the mound to start this afternoon's contest.

San Diego State will counter with senior lefty Dominic Purpura (6-1, 3.39), who suffered just his first loss of the season last Saturday at UC Santa Barbara.

The Aztecs enter the day with record of 30-13 overall and 14-5 in league play where they are in second place. After opening the season with a 3-4 record, San Diego State is 27-9 (.750) in its last 36 contests.

Friday night's 4-0 win over UNM was all about pitching on both sides as SDSU's Brett Seeburger got the better of Lobo right-hander Tyler Stevens.

Offensively, second baseman Alan Trejo led the Aztecs with three hits including a double along with an RBI.

Shortstop Danny Sheehan extended his current hitting streak to eight games during which he has gone 14-for-38 (.368) with three doubles, two home runs, nine RBI and 10 runs scored.

Sheehan is one of four Aztecs mentioned on watch list for various national awards. He is a candidate for the 2017 Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year Award while Brett Seeburger and Dominic Purpura are on the list for National Pitcher of the Year. In addition, closer CJ Saylor is on the 40-man Stopper of the Year award watch list.

San Diego State and New Mexico will conclude their weekend series on Sunday (April 30) with a contest set to get underway at 1:00 p.m. PT at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
