SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State baseball program will honor police, fire department and emergency medical personnel on Saturday, April 29, as it hosts a First Responders Appreciation Day in conjunction with the SDSU baseball game against New Mexico.
Pre-game ceremonies will begin at 1:40 p.m. before the contest between the Aztec and Lobos, which is set to start at 2:00 p.m.
There will be police, SWAT and fire vehicles on the concourse for fans to check out before and during the game. In addition, Chief of Police Shelley Zimmerman and Fire Chief Brian Fennessy will address the crowd pre-game and will throw out the ceremonial first pitches. A police and fire helicopter flyover will follow the singing of the national anthem.
To mark the occasion, the Aztec baseball team will wear a first responder patch on their jerseys that features the American flag.
First responders can receive a discounted $4 ticket with ID at the door and the general public can purchase tickets prior to the game by clicking here.
This weekend's three-game series between the Aztecs and New Mexico, which begins with a contest Friday evening (April 28) at 6:00 p.m., features the top two teams in the Mountain West standings. The Lobos record in league play stands at 14-2-1 while SDSU's record is 13-5.
