SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - San Diego State will wrap up its three-game weekend series at UC Santa Barbara with a contest this afternoon slated to begin at 1:00 p.m. PT at UCSB's Caesar Uyesaka Stadium. The winner will claim the series victory after the Aztecs won on Friday, 5-3, while the Gauchos prevailed in Saturday's contest, 6-5.
UCSB comes into today's game with a record of 17-19 and will have right-hander Chris Clements (1-4, 6.31) on the mound to get things started.
San Diego State (28-12) will utilize senior right-hander Cody Thompson (1-0, 4.26) as its starting pitcher this afternoon.
Outfielder Tyler Adkison, who missed Saturday's contest due to illness, continues to lead the club with a .393 batting average. He also tops the team with 11 home runs, 38 RBI and 24 walks.
Shortstop Danny Sheehan connected for his second home run of the year on Saturday, this one a three-run shot that tied the game at 5-5 in the seventh inning. The senior from Covina, Calif., is hitting at a .336 clip with 11 doubles and 29 RBI.
David Hensley, who led SDSU with three hits on Saturday, is now batting .373 and has recorded nine doubles and 15 RBI in the number-nine slot in the lineup.
Despite an uncharacteristic five errors over the first two games this weekend, SDSU is still fielding .979. First baseman Jordan Verdon has yet to commit a miscue this season in 410 chances.
San Diego State continues to be one of the top hitting clubs in the country with a team batting average of .318. The Aztecs' 3.20 earned run average is its best since the 1989 squad finished with a 3.17 team ERA.
Following this afternoon's game, San Diego State will return home for a four-game home stand that gets underway on Tuesday, April 25, with a contest against UC Riverside at 6:00 p.m. PT at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
