The San Diego State softball team run-ruled Boise State, 14-0, in five innings to even the weekend series Saturday at Boise State. The Aztecs (24-15, 8-6 MW) outhit the Broncos (25-16, 7-10 MW), 14-3, in the game.

SDSU got on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning without recording hit. Katie Byrd (Santee, Calif./West Hills HS) drew a walk and Jenavee Peres (Garden Grove, Calif.) was then hit by a pitch. Each runner moved up on an illegal pitch by BSU starting pitcher Kelsey Broadus before Molly Sturdivant's (Santa Ana, Calif.) deep flyout to right-center field scored Byrd with the first run of the game.

San Diego State added to its lead in the second as it loaded the bases with no outs on a Taylor Stewart (Bellflower, Calif.) walk, and back-to-back singles by Shelby Thompson (Benicia, Calif.) and Jaylene Ignacio (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino HS). Kiera Wright then dropped a single to left field to score Stewart and Zaria Meshack (Vallejo, Calif.) followed with a single through the left side to plate Thompson, chasing Broadus from the game in favor of Veronica Lynch. Ignacio scored from third to make it 4-0 Aztecs as Byrd reached on an error. On the play, Meshack was tagged out at second on a rundown. Lynch got out of the jam, however, by getting Peres and Sturdivant to ground into fielder's choices.

SDSU kept up its offense in the third a Sydnee Cable (Huntington Beach, Calif.) led off with her fifth home run of the season. Stewart and Thompson followed with singles, and moved up a base on a wild pitch. Ignacio then ripped a single off the glove of Boise State shortstop Rebekah Cervantes, which scored both runners. Ignacio later scored on throwing error by catcher Shaylee Pearson, who overthrew Meshack's stolen base attempt. Byrd followed with a double to right-center field to score Meshack with the ninth run of the game. Peres struck out, but reached on a wild pitch, which also moved Byrd to third base. Sturdivant then cleared the bases for her eighth homer of the year to make it 12-0 San Diego State.

After a scoreless fourth, the Aztecs loaded the bases once again in the fifth on a Peres double, Sturdivant single and Cable walk. After a fielder's choice grounder by Frankie Orlando (Roseville, Calif.) which got Peres out at home, Thompson drew a walk to score Sturdivant with the 13th run of the game. SDSU's final run came when Ignacio's sacrifice fly plated Cable.

Like yesterday in a 6-4 loss, four San Diego State players had four hits apiece. Ignacio was a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs, while Sturdivant was 2-for-3 with a home run, four RBIs and two runs scored. Thompson (RBI, 2 R) and Meshack (RBI, R, SB) also added two hits.

Byrd had a hit, walk, two RBIs and a run, while Stewart had a single, two runs and a walk.

The offense was plenty for the duo of Marissa Moreno (Torrance, Calif.) and Julie McDonald (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad HS). Moreno (9-5) tossed three perfect innings as the starter with four strikeouts, while McDonald allowed three hits and a walk over two innings, striking out one.

The rubber game of the series starts at noon MT (11 a.m. PT) Sunday.
