SAN DIEGO - San Diego State and San Jose State will play the middle contest of their three-game weekend series this afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
The Spartans enter the day with a record of 10-15 overall and 5-5 in the Mountain West after dropping a 5-4 decision to the Aztecs Friday evening. The loss was the sixth in the last seven outings for San Jose state, which is tied for third place in the league standings with Fresno State.
SJSU will send right-hander Matt Brown (2-3, 6.32) to the mound in an attempt to even the series. The Aztecs will counter with senior left-hander Dominic Purpura (4-0, 4.25).
SDSU second baseman Alan Trejo extended his current hitting streak to 17 games Friday evening with a single in the seventh inning that drove in what proved to be the winning run as the Aztecs overturned a 4-3 deficit with a pair for runs in that inning.
Catcher Dean Nevarez had a pair of hits in last night's win with a double and home run and he also scored twice.
Senior lefty Brett Seeburger (5-1) went seven innings to pick up his team-leading fifth win of the year while closer CJ Saylor notched his sixth save of the season.
Today's contest is the second of five games in five days for the Aztecs (17-9 overall, 7-3 MW), a run that includes an afternoon contest vs. San Francisco at home on Monday and a game vs. UCLA on Tuesday at Lake Elsinore.
San Diego State and San Jose State will wrap up their series on Sunday (April 2) with a game slated to start at 1:00 p.m. PT at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
