SAN DIEGO - San Diego State made the most of four hits, and seven pitchers combined for a shutout as the Aztecs defeated Cal Poly, 2-0, Sunday afternoon to complete a sweep of their three-game weekend series.

The win was the fifth straight for SDSU, which improved to 8-4 on the season. With the loos, the Mustangs saw their record drop to 2-9 as they completed string of 11 consecutive road games to open their 2017 campaign.

The Aztecs opened the scoring in the bottom of third as Hunter Stratton led off with a double to right, was sacrificed to third by Julian Escobedo and scored on a double to right by Alan Trejo.

SDSU's second run came three frames later as Trejo walked, was sacrificed to second by Andrew Brown, and scored on an infield single by Danny Sheehan that skipped off the glove of the Mustang's second baseman as he attempted a backhand stop.

On the mound, freshman left Hayden Petrovick tossed the first four innings to pick up the win as he was designated with a pitch count in the contest. Over his four innings, he allowed four hits, two walks and a hit batter. In three of his innings, he was able to get out of trouble with two men on base. With the win, Petrovick upped his record to 2-0.

Six other SDSU hurlers pitched over the final five innings with none going more than one full frame. That group included Adrian Mardueno, Marcus Reyes, Cody Thompson, Logan Boyer, Jacob Erickson and CJ Saylor.

The Mustangs left at least one man on base on eight occasions and finished the day by stranding a total of 13 in the contest.

Saylor, who tossed the final frame, recorded his fourth save of the season, but not without some drama. A single and two walks loaded the bases for Cal Poly with two out, but Saylor got a ground ball to shortstop to end the game.

Up next for the Aztecs is a contest against USC on Tuesday, March 7, scheduled to get underway at 6:00 p.m. PT at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
