SDSU 10, Miami 4

San Diego State homered five times in a 10-4 victory over Miami University at the San Diego Classic I Saturday night at SDSU Softball Stadium.

The Aztecs (10-7), who are receiving votes in both the NFCA/USA Today and ESPN.com/USA Softball national polls, had three home runs in the bottom of the first inning and two more in the sixth. The five homers are tied for the second most in a game in program history and most since a school-record six at Utah State on May 3, 2015.

Freshman Shelby Thompson (Benicia, Calif.) had a three-run homer, the first of her career, in the first and was followed by senior Jaylene Ignacio's (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino HS) first of the season.

Sophomore Katie Byrd (Santee, Calif./West Hills HS) added a solo home run in the sixth, right before Peres' second of the night.

SDSU's other two runs came in the second when sophomore Molly Sturdivant (Santa Ana, Calif.) doubled to score Byrd from second base and scored on a single by junior Taylor Stewart (Bellflower, Calif.).

San Diego State outhit the Red Hawks (6-11), 11-4, for the game.

Byrd led the way with three hits, three runs, an RBI, double and stolen base, while Stewart had two hits, an RBI and a run scored.

Peres added two hits, three RBIs and two runs, and Sturdivant had a double, two runs, an RBI and a walk.

Junior Alex Formby (Orange, Calif.) picked up the win for the Aztecs after tossing her first complete game of the season. The right-hander allowed four runs (two earned) on four hits, a walk and a hit batter, while striking out three. Formby is now 2-2 on the year.

MU got its runs with a two-run homer by Kat Lee in the second, Michaela Schlattman scoring on a SDSU error in the third and Lee scoring on another San Diego State throwing error in the seventh.
