The San Diego State rowing team is set to race in the 44th annual San Diego Crew Classic this weekend at Crown Point Shores on Mission Bay. The Aztecs will enter four boats on Saturday, April 1, and one on Sunday, April 2. Races are set to begin around 7:30 a.m. each day.
The Aztecs are coming off an excellent showing at the Hornet Invitational March 18-19 in Sacramento, Calif., where they logged first place finishes in eight of 10 races. SDSU saw victories against conference foe Sacramento State, winning the varsity eight, second varsity eight and third varsity eight over the Hornets, a V8 win over Saint Mary's and 2V8 and varsity four wins over Loyola Marymount and Drexel.
SDSU is scheduled to compete in five events in this weekend's regatta, beginning with the women's collegiate varsity eight at 7:52 a.m. in heat A. The Aztecs will face the Stanford lightweight crew, Sacramento State, Villanova and Southern Methodist.
In the second race of the day, the Aztec varsity four boat is set to compete against Wisconsin, Washington State and Loyola Marymount in heat C of the collegiate V4 race at 9:12 a.m.
Shortly after, the second varsity eight races Wisconsin, Washington State, University of British Columbia and Santa Clara in heat C of the women's collegiate 2V8 at 10 a.m.
The final race for the Aztecs on Saturday will be the women's collegiate novice eight preliminary at 11:08 a.m. where SDSU will race University of Texas Austin, UCLA, Sac State, Univ. of British Columbia, LMU and UC Santa Barbara.
On Sunday, the Aztecs will enter the women's collegiate varsity four B final race where they are set to face University of Southern California, UCLA, Sac State, University of Tennessee, SMU and UCSB at 12:04 p.m.
The outcomes of Saturday's races will determine the Sunday morning schedule for the Aztecs. Links for live results and video will be available on GoAztecs.com.
Following the Crew Classic, San Diego State is set to race cross-town foe UCSD on Friday, April 21, at 7 a.m.
