FRESNO, Calif. - San Diego State will look to make it three straight against Fresno State when the teams conclude their weekend series with a contest slated to get underway today at 1:05 p.m. PT at FSU's Pete Beiden Field.
The Aztecs won the first two games of the series, sweeping a doubleheader on Saturday by scores of 5-4 and 12-0. They come into today's contest riding a five-game winning streak and have a record of 16-7 overall and 6-2 in the Mountain West.
Fresno State, meanwhile, saw its record fall to 12-10 overall and 4-4 in league play. The Bulldogs are expected to start right-hander Davis Moore (2-0, 3.86).
San Diego State's starting hurler for today's games will most likely be either senior Cody Thompson (1-0, 3.98) or freshman Logan Boyer (0-0, 0.87).
In Saturday's 12-0 win over the Bulldogs, Aztec senior left-hander Brett Seeburger threw a one-hotter over his eight innings of work. He faced just one batter over the minimum, allowing only an infield single in the sixth inning. Marcus Reyes finished off the game with a perfect ninth inning to complete the one-hit shutout.
The Aztecs offense pounded out 28 hits over Saturday's twin bill to improve the team batting average to .315. The four earned runs allowed over the two contests dropped the team earned run average to 3.51.
Defensively, the Aztecs have committed only 15 errors through the first 23 game of the season for a .983 fielding percentage. The record for team fielding in a season is .978, set during the 2013 campaign.
Outfielder Tyler Adkison continues to lead the team with a .529 batting average. He also tops the squad in home runs (7), RBI (23), slugging percentage (1.098) and on-base percentage (.609).
Other offensive leaders include Alan Trejo in runs scored (23), doubles (8) and stolen bases (5), Andrew Brown in hits (37) and Jordan Verdon in triples (3).
Up next for the Aztecs is a trip to Los Angeles this week for a contest against USC on Tuesday, March 28, at 6:00 p.m. at the Trojans' Dedeaux Field. They then return home for a three-game conference series against San Jose State next weekend at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
