The incoming freshmen for the San Diego State women's basketball team, ranked as the 23rd- and 46th-best class in the country (according to Propsects Nation and Blue Star Basketball, respectively), capped their impressive high school careers in convincing fashion, as they prepare to don the Scarlet and Black for the 2017-18 season.
Te'a Adams was named a first-team All-3A/2A KingCo Conference honoree, earning her fourth consecutive all-conference honor, and was a Seattle Times Class 3A first team pick. She finished her four-year career at Juanita High School (Kirkland, Wash.) as the program's all-time leading scorer with 1,835 career points. She capped an impressive run at Juanita with career-high tallies in points (22.5), assists (3.3), rebounds (4.1) and assists (4.6) this season.
Adams is a 5'9 guard and was a three-star recruit according to ESPN and was given a scouts grade of 90. Her career at Juanita began with a bang, as she collected All-KingCo 2A/3A first-team honors as a freshman. Named to the 2015 All-USA Western Washington Preseason Girls Basketball first team, she captured KingCo 2A/3A Co-MVP and Defensive Player of the Year accolades as a sophomore. A 2016 All-USA Western Washington Preseason Girls Basketball Team honorable mention, Adams earned a spot on the KingCo 3A/2A First Team after leading her team in points per game for the third straight season with 20 points per game.
Jenay Bojorquez captured All-5A Conference first-team accolades in her final season and earned a spot at the Arizona Girls High School Basketball All-Star game. This season, she averaged a team-best 6.1 assists and 4.4 steals per game to go alongside 9.5 points per game. Sierra Linda High (Phoenix, Ariz.) fell in a heartbreaking defeat in its first 5A state title game following a season that saw the team post a 27-3 record.
Bojorquez, a 5'6 point guard, was a three-and-a-half-star recruit according to Prospects Nation. She held the top spot on Sierra Linda High's varsity squad in assists per game for three consecutive seasons. She started her high school career at Southeast High School in Oklahoma City. In 21 games on the varsity team, she averaged 13 points, five assists and 3.6 steals per game. Following a transfer to Sierra Linda High as a sophomore, Bojorquez topped her squad with 4.3 assists per game and tied for the team lead with 3.6 steals per game, going alongside 9.7 points per game.
Kiara Edwards and Valley Vista High (Surprise, Ariz.) won Arizona's 6A division, marking the school's first state sports title. She was named to the All-6A Conference second team after averaging nearly a double-double per game with 12.1 points and 8.8 rebounds, which was the team high. Edwards also competed in the Arizona Girls High School Basketball All-Star game.
Averaging nearly a double-double per game over her four-year varsity career, Edwards is a 6'1 forward. Ranked No. 119 by Prospects Nation, the four-star recruit was invited to the 2016 USA Basketball Women's U17 World Championship team trials last May. Over her career, she was named a 2014 Sports360AZ All-Academic Girls Basketball Team honorable mention, and was a two-time All-West Valley Preps Girls Basketball Player of the Year runner-up and a first-team honoree as a sophomore and junior.
Najé Murray made a triumphant return from an ACL injury in July, returning in time to reach the 1,000-career-point mark, earning a spot on the NorCal Sports TV Girls West All-Star roster. She helped lead St. Mary's (Stockton, Calif.) to a San Joaquin Section championship before her team fell in the NorCal Open Division championship game to Archbishop Mitty, 78-61. St. Mary's finished the year with an impressive 21-9 mark.
A 5'6 guard, Murray earned three stars and a 90 scouts grade by ESPN. Over her four-year career, Murray was on the All-Sac-Joaquin Section Tri-City Athletic League second team as a freshman, which she followed with Cal-Hi Sports All-State Underclass Sophomore first-team honors. In her junior season, she was named to the Cal-Hi Sports All-State Underclass Junior first team.
Kennedi Villa competed on the NorCal Sports TV Girls West All-Star team alongside Murray, and was named an All-Bay Area News Group honorable mention at St. Mary's High in Albany, Calif. Her team uffered a disappointing loss in the CIF Division III Northern regional championship game, finishing the year 22-11. In the championship game, Villa led the Panthers with 18 points, scoring 12 of the team's 16 first-quarter points. She finished the season by pacing St. Mary's with 1.9 assists per game. She ranked second, getting 10.6 points and 2.7 steals per game.
Villa, a 6'0 guard, was a three-star recruit according to ESPN, she earned a scouts grade of 88. In her sophomore season, her first full year of varsity play, Villa averaged 8.4 points per game to rank second on the team and 5.27 rebounds per game with 70 total steals and 68 assists. That year, her team advanced to the NCS Division IV title game for the seventh year in a row. As a junior, Villa's point production increased, as she averaged a team-best 11.3 points per game alongside 5.06 rebounds per game.
